Walgreen Co., the nation’s largest drugstore chain, and its Take Care Health Systems announced Tuesday that they will provide free healthcare services to patients who lose their job because of the economic crisis and remain without health insurance. Starting today, these people will be able to get free treatment at Walgreen’s in-store Take Care clinics for respiratory problems, allergies, infections and skin conditions, among other ailments.
“Walgreens and Take Care Health Systems strongly believe that a family’s health care needs should not take a backseat to the economy. Take Care Clinics were founded on the principle of providing patient-focused care and doing all that they can to help every patient in the communities they serve,” Hal Rosenbluth, president of Walgreens’ health and wellness division and chairman of Take Care Health Systems, said in a statement. Free consultations and treatment will be offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Such an offer comes at a time when people confront more and more with the results of the economic crisis when the rate of unemployment has dramatically increased leaving many families without the possibility of taking care of their children. Hopefully, other companies will follow the example…
