The infamous Everquest 2 lying survey continues to make waves, as newly uncovered results reveal that the MMO has five times more bisexual women than the general populace.

Along with echoing previous findings (females generally getting more into the games than men), lead researcher Scott Caplan of the University of Delaware explains that women who play MMO games are those more-likely to reject gender stereotypes.

This conclusion is supported by the gathered data, indicating five times the amount of bisexuality among women in the game as compared to the general population.

"These are not people who are following strict gender stereotypes," said Prof Caplan. "I think that the game itself is right now a very non-traditional activity for women, and so I think what you would find in this population are going to be people who are in other ways less traditional than the majority population."

Of course i have to stress once again - these are the results of a voluntary study in which participants received a free in-game item for participating, so I can't really see how they can even begin to pretend that they tallied accurate results. If I was told to complete a study in order to receive a free in-game item, I'd complete that puppy so fast that I might have wound up one of those hardcore bisexual raider women.

Think about that before you start fantasizing about that hot wood elf you saw running about Qeynos

Dark elves love blue tacos.

They just put down Bisexual in all the surveys so that they can tell all the stalkers in the game that they are lesbians.

Perhaps if they remain eating for more than 5 minutes, they get a stam buff :)

I'm more surprised that people are still playing Everquest.

This is one of the first things I learned in Intro Stats. Voluntary survey=trouble. Voluntary survey with incentive? Shit city.

kotaku.com

Inaccurate survey. Those "lesbians" were probably men to begin with.

STUDY SHOES THAT MOST MEN CLAIMING TO BE WOMEN CLAIM TO BE BISEXUAL SHOCKING!

Most girls say they're bisexual if they could maybe, possibly imagine kissing another girl. In practice they're usually a 1 or 2 on the Kinsey scale.

kotaku.com

No seriously, think about it! Get people thinking that there are a ton of bisexual women in Everquest. This potentially draws more stereotypical MMO players to hopefully talk with a woman...and potentially draws actual bisexual women to Everquest... BRILLIANT!

Of the 5 women I know in real life that play WoW, 4 of them are bi. o_O

kotaku.com

Are they bisexual in the sphere of an MMO (where you can be anything you want) or are these true bisexuals who can have or had relationships with both genders offline? Or did they just say it because it would burn them through the survey faster? From what I have read and understood true bisexuals are kinda rare. There are a lot of people at younger ages who sexually experiment, but that's not being bisexual. Something's not right about this survey. To capture that much of a social-sexual rarity in one place means it's a social phenomenon or the numbers are screwy.

Many women are bi-sexual anyway; at least more women claim to be than men claim to be, due to social stigma. Other studies say everyone is basically bisexual to an extent. I'm not really sure why everyone is so skeptical of this survey. Is it really that hard to believe that women play MMOs?

If you want a survey of the general MMO populace, survey WoW players instead. Everquest is niche. And apparently a bisexual niche.
