Toy trains bearing pictures of real human faces are being used to help autistic kids understand emotion as part of a radical new program.
Leading scientists and film makers have developed an educational DVD designed to help children as young as two overcome the most challenging aspect of their condition - reading the human face.\n\nYoung people with autism and a milder form of the developmental disorder, Asperger's syndrome, love the order and predictability of objects like toy trains and mechanical objects and naturally shy away from hard-to-read objects like faces.
It has already been distributed to 40,000 UK families, with results showing that most children who watched the animation 15 minutes a day over four weeks caught up with other children in their ability to recognise emotions.\n\n
