A 13-meter (42-foot) log has been the main attraction in Cambodia’s Pursat province for a couple of days now.
“They believe the log has magical powers,” village chief Hun Nov said. “About 100 people come everyday to visit the log to ask for lottery numbers or to cure their sickness.” Visitors even bring offerings such as pigs heads or whole boiled chickens. The log first made news after several locals had touched it and won the lottery. Cambodians are naturally superstitious, believing in animism, so they see nothing wrong with visiting and putting their faith in the log. Others even drink water from the pond where the log was found, hoping that they will be cured from their illnesses
