Are you used to just picking up a crate of coke whenever you are out – whether in glass, can or bottle form, you don’t think about it much. Not many people will be aware, but it is a common practice for people in much of Central America and other developing countries to drink their soft drinks in plastic bags! This is because the cost of bottles – be it for straight purchase as in the PET ones or for exchange for a new one as in the glass ones – makes them too expensive for the average user. In a unique effort to reconnect with its customers in these countries, Coca Cola gave introduced “The Coca-Cola Bag”, a brilliantly designed package made of bio-degradable plastic. These plastic bags are designed in the shape of its iconic “Mae West” bottle. This bag retains all the drink’s fizz and experience, and also saves buyers bottle deposit money. Most importantly, it is bio-degradable which makes it wonderfully eco-friendly.
The “The Coca-Cola Bag” is a great way for the brand to recapture some of their branding, as in these countries, even Coke was being served up to customers in little sandwich baggies! Now all their customers who couldn’t afford Coke are coming back in droves. Wouldn’t you like to try it someday?
