Kitchit brings the restaurant experience to private homes, offering personalized dining options for a fraction of the price of a traditional private chef.
Watching Top Chef on TV may be exciting, but what about having a Top Chef actually cook for you? It’s an opportunity that isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds. With Kitchit, a service dedicated to connecting eager foodies with accomplished (and famous) chefs, gone are the days of private chefs being exclusively for the wealthy; anyone can now host a customized dinner party for a price similar to a night out on the town.
When you dine out, there’s little to zero flexibility in menu options, mark-ups on alcohol are huge, and uncontrollable elements like loud noise and spotty service can put a damper on a dining experience. On the plus side, however, for the host of the party, there is much less stress- zero cooking and cleaning is involved. Kitchit combines the best aspects of restaurant and at-home dining with their service; members work with chefs to create their perfect menu, and the chef takes care of all of the shopping, cooking, and cleaning.
On the Kitchit site, sign-in and start planning dinner parties, cooking classes, cocktail parties, or large events with the help of the Kitchit concierge–start by selecting a date and specifying a price range (events start at $40/person) for the event; users will then see a list of available chefs. All of the chefs have been hand-curated by the Kitchit founders; some are up-and-coming, like J. Jackson who was Lady Gaga’s private chef on her Tokyo tour, some more recognizable, like Marcel Vigneron of Top Chef fame. Members contact available chefs with their proposed event, and the chef creates a tailored experience based on the requests- want an Iron Chef style cooking class or an ‘I Love NY’ themed dinner party? The chef will work with each customer individually to create the menu that best suits their needs, even catering to dietary restrictions or allergies.
Hosts invite guests online, where the bill is automatically split evenly between all attendees. Gratuity and fees are also automatically included and paid online, so on the day of the event, all the host and guests have to worry about is having a memorable meal. The chef shows up the day of the event ahead of time to prep the meal, and can even work with the host to coordinate tablescaping and china rentals.
With the new service, personal chefs with an empty night on their schedule get an extra night of work, and foodies (even the most frugal) are able to have a memorable, bespoke dining experience.
Kitchit launched in September of 2011, and is now available in LA, SF, or NYC.
