Hotel amenities go beyond fully equipped gyms, Wi-Fi and daily newspapers these days—hotels are adding special services and other extras to impress savvy travelers. Forbes Travel Guide put together a few of the latest unique offerings we’ve come across, ranging from a dedicated art concierge to surf outings with professionals.
Art Concierge, The Hazelton Hotel The Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Toronto hotel recently hired their own art expert. Artist Sam Mogelonsky will lead tours of the The Hazelton Hotel’s contemporary art collection—which focuses mainly on paintings, sculptures and photographs from Canadian artists including Will Robinson, Cynthia Chapman and William Fisk. Guests can ask questions about the Toronto art scene—the Bloor-Yorkville neighborhood is home to galleries and art dealers—in person or online using the hotel’s Live Chat function.
Interactive Video Wall, InterContinental Chicago The hotel brings its location on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile inside with the new interactive wall positioned behind the front desk. The LED video wall broadcasts a live stream of shopping strip Michigan Avenue all day and night—a HD camera outside the hotel catches different views. Watch for special broadcasts year-round—the screen will show the fireworks on the Fourth of July and will be the focus of movie nights complete with themed snacks—action films will be played alongside beer and pretzels and wine and cheese will accompany romantic comedies.
Surfing With Professionals, Montage Laguna Beach The Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel is offering a short-term, but extraordinary amenity—a chance to catch a wave with pro surfers Pat O’Connell and Jon Rose. Book Montage Laguna Beach’s package offered September 14 to 16—available for just 12 people—and you’ll head out to San Diego’s famed Trestles surf spot with the legends, then mingle with them at a lawn cocktail party and barbecue. On Sunday, you’ll get passes to the Hurley Pro competition, where you can watch the surfing elite in action.
