A Welsh businessman says he's found the original recipe for Jack Daniel's whiskey in a book of herbal remedies belonging to his grandmother.
Mark Evans, 54, was doing some family history research when he found the book and recipe, Sky News reports. The recipe, was written in 1853, around the same time her brother-in-law moved to Lynchburg, Tennessee, where the famous distillery was founded three years later.
The book containing the lost recipe, which is written in Welsh, was handed to Mr Evans's grandmother Lillian Daniels Probert, 97, by her grandmother Marged, who was known for creating herbal medicines and ointments in her time. Mr Evans believes the recipe was taken to Lynchburg, Tennessee, by her brother-in-law - John "Jack the lad" Daniels - where Jack Daniel's whiskey is distilled. "My great-great-grandmother wrote in the book in 1853, and Jack Daniel's is dated 1866, so it predates it," the businessman told the Llanelli Star newspaper.
