Despite being just 140 character messages, marketing agencies have found a lot of ways of transforming tweets into something more. The latest example comes from the South African brand BOS Ice Tea, which has launched what it claims to be the world’s first Twitter activated vending-machine.
How it works is simple: Just send a tweet to the machine’s account (@bos), tweet the hashtag #BOSTWEET4T and the vending machine will give you a free sample of BOS Ice Tea for you to drink. The vending machine has been set up in Cape Town
While their claim isn’t exactly true (Electric Ireland set up a ‘Tweet Cafe‘ at the Dublin Web Summit back in October), we’re a little surprised that there hasn’t been any other examples of brands or agencies using Twitter in this way. It’s a nice example of bringing online activities into the real world and because Twitter is growing in popularity as a mobile web platform, it’s easy for passersby to act upon seeing it.
The vending machine was created by marketing company Cow Africa, which is based in Cape Town.
