The new Audi R18 Le Mans racer will be fitted with a digital mirror that will stream a rear-view image. The digital screen includes the latest diode technology that allows for high-resolution images with more vibrant details and colors. According to the German car manufacturer, the break-through technology is better than any conventional mirror as it’s less-affected by rain and dirt.
The digital mirror will be tested in next month’s Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race in France. A lot is at stake as Audi has won the event 10 times in the last 12 years.
Although the digital mirror is developed for motor racing, there is potential for the technology to be installed in commercial vehicles. Recently we showcased an electric quadricycle where the side mirrors have been replaced with dashboard video.
