LONDON— After all the sexist jokes about female driving capabilities — or lack thereof — it turns out women actually park better than men, according to a study by Britain's National Car Park Report.
Researchers found that women position cars more accurately, use better technique and are more likely to find an open spot in a parking lot.
The study, which looked at 2,500 drivers in the UK for a month, showed that, out of a maximum of 20 points, women scored an average of 13.4. Men scored 12.3.
Men beat women only on speed, taking an average of 16 seconds to park instead of 21 seconds. In every other category, however, women vroomed ahead. For instance, more than half of women parked in the space in a centered position, whereas only a quarter of men did so.
Three-quarters of the women also took a better initial pre-parking position, compared to only 53 percent of the men, and almost 40 percent of women decided to reverse into the space — as driving instructors teach — compared to just 28 percent of men. Women also found open spaces more often than men, since they took more time circling the lot.
