Although there has rarely been a season of “American Idol” in which everyone agreed upon who the winning contestant should be, the show deserves respect for putting the power in the hands of the people and asking them to decide who will win the competition. However, for casual fans of the show, the text-message voting process may have seemed too tedious to be worth participating in. However, according to The Epoch Times, that may change, as viewers will soon be able to vote through their Facebook accounts.
Although we don’t have the full details yet, word is that the process will involve users logging on to an “Idol” Facebook page and casting their votes there. If all goes according to plan, the system should be up and running by Tuesday, March 1. It’s a good idea, and one that will also be implemented in Simon Cowell’s show “The X Factor.” Many people who enjoy “Idol” don’t participate in the voting process because they don’t care enough about the show to get that involved. Some viewers simply enjoy listening to the music and watching the performances, but seeing as plenty of people in the show’s target audience also have Facebook accounts which they check regularly, it will be easy enough for them to sign on and cast their vote. There’s no guarantee that this will increase audience participation, but it will certainly make it easier.
